Take a break from the fandoms and take a moment to read this:
Farah Baker, a 16 year old teen living in the Gaza Strip, has been tweeting and posting on social media sites of the various indiscriminant bombings being committed by Israeli forces, most recently very violent shelling near Al-Shifa hospital by her.
In her countless tweets and numerous posts on both Twitter and Instagram, she documents live strikes using photos and videos to show her followers the severity of the situation her and thousands like her are going through every day. @farah_gazan has gone viral, spiking from 21k to 76k followers on twitter in a span of 24 hours and climbing to 300+ in a matter of hours on Instagram.
Personally, I felt like I was reading something off the diary of Anne Frank. And who knows? Our children might be reading this and asking us why we didn’t stop her from dying just like we did to our grandparents.
The tweets are heartbreaking and the videos are breathtaking. She needs your support. Let her know you stand by her. Follow her on twitter and Instagram and maybe somehow you can change history.
My ideal man. As I sat watching I said to my friend: “He’s lovely, isn’t he? I’d love to meet him.” Then a couple of months later I did. - Amanda Abbington about Martin Freeman
For years I’ve always known I wasn’t the best actor in my house. So I think the fact that the industry is kind of catching up with that, I couldn’t be more pleased for her. I’m her number one fan. - Martin Freeman about Amanda Abbington
This is true. I saw a documentary about it. Men’s orgasm faces are allowed in teenage comedies rated PG13, but women’s orgasm faces can often push it into NC-17 territory, no joke.
This is pretty much the equation:
women receiving abuse = PG-13/R
women receiving pleasure = R/NC-17
Ugh. I did a speech on this shit, and watched the documentary about it. Pisses me the fuck off.
So absolutely ridiculous. Yes, please, show us being raped, murdered, mutilated; but don’t you dare show us engaging in sexual gratification. Because that would be…obscene.
“After this I go to work at a pizza shop. My wife and I were college professors in Bangladesh. I taught accounting. But one dollar in America becomes eighty dollars when we send it back home.”
People forget, when immigrants come to this country they start from scratch. They could have been lawyers in their home country, but in the US..it means nothing. You think a HS diploma from Bangladesh means anything in this country? My mom was a top student in the country, went to all the best school and got the best of everything…but when she got here it meant squat and she was cleaning other people’s homes and scrubbing their toilets. This is why I get pissed of when people talk smack about immigrants. They at least are doing something…..heading for a goal..making sacrifices…what are you doing with your life?
^ My parents were college-educated teachers in their home country and came to the U.S. with nothing but empty pockets, a dash of hope, and a belief in God. They also scrubbed toilets in people’s homes to make enough to provide for their children, and that’s probably not something a lot of educated professionals would be able to do. I know I wouldn’t be able to do it. Pride would get in the way.
THIS IS TOO IMPORTANT.
Shoutout to my parents
and you know, shout out to our im/migrant parents who were not college educated before they came to the U.S and don’t share a narrative of going from “riches to rags.” shout out to my im/migrant parents who were laborers at home and are still laborers here.
i think it’s important to honor the complexities of our parents histories and uplift their triumphs but let’s remember to do so in a way that honors all of the ways im/migrants exist and all of the places we and our parents come from. we don’t have to prove that capitalism, white supremacy, classism, etc is awful because our parents were once revered college professors or doctors. we don’t have to believe in that assimilation.

"You hit like a girl," the strong female character says
"Stop being such a girl," the strong female character says
"Man up," the strong female character says
"Shut the fuck up," I whisper
#stop using my gender as an insult
so this is me, Phoenix, and my partner, Alastair. I’m a poly agender lesbian, and he’s my gender-questioning steady.
I’ve had to ask for a lot of help recently. up until a few months ago, I managed to squeeze thru on my own (below the poverty line my whole life, but I’ve been working 50+ hours a week since I was 15 on top of school) and then some really awful shit happened. I was raped twice less than a month after my best friend and lover was murdered, all while homeless.
since I was very young, I’ve been diagnosed with PTSD, depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia. with the recent shite of late, all of my mental illnesses have essentially hit a point where I am no longer able to work for the time being.
to sum up quickly, I’ve been accepted to university in Denton. I am staying at a place over an hour and a half away from the uni and need to get an apartment closer to school. my financial aid will pay for the tiny apartment I’m gonna get once I get my student loans, but before then, I need money to put down on our apartment. what money I did have have is almost gone and the person we are staying with needs more money to afford us staying here, which isn’t really an option anymore anyways. we won’t need too terribly much, but I do need it within the next 2-3 weeks. if you can donate, the button is on my blog in the description. if you can’t, signal boosting will help us too. thank you all for helping me during this shit. <3
